Epsom Derby Form Guide 2025
Camelot
There is no doubt whatsoever thatCamelotis the big talking horse on the flat this season and the Aidan O'Brien trained horse will start the Derby as the warm favourite to take the win. He produced a devastating performance to win the Racing Post Trophy last season as a juvenile and it was the race that made punters sit up and notice him as a potential star. The horse returned this season in the 2025 Guineas and duly won the first classic of the season after being held up at the back of the field by jockey Joseph O'Brien. The way he moved through the field that day was impressive and if he takes to Epsom he has to be the one to beat in the Derby.
Astrology
As always Aidan O'Brien has a strong hand in the Derby betting and another one who could head to Epsom for Ballydoyle is Astrology. The horse was slashed in the Epsom Derby odds after his good win in the recent Dee Stakes at Chester on heavy ground. There are doubts about the quality of that race but he hosed up with something in hand and deserves respect if he runs in the big one. Whether he quite has the class to win a Derby is up for debate but the Dee Stakes has proven a good trial in recent years and that should be taken into account.
Main Sequence
Looks set to take his chance for David Lanigan in the Derby and after four consecutive wins he is an interesting contender. His biggest win to date came last time out in the Derby Trial at Lingfield on the all weather and he looked to be a good horse that day. He beat the well fancied Shantaram in good style that day and the fact that he is unbeaten means he could still be anything at this stage. It is worth noting that no winner of the Lingfield Derby Trial has gone onto win at Epsom since 1998 which is a worry but he deserves to take his chance at Epsom
Bonfire
A very interesting runner for Andrew Balding who looks set to have his first entry in the Derby with this Highclere owned horse.Bonfirewon his only start this season in the dante Stakes at York which has proven to be a key trial race for the Derby in recent years. The horse travelled really well that day at York before winning reasonably well from Ektihaam who ran gamely for second place. As with all the Derby Runners there is no guarantee that he will take to Epsom but on the bare form he could be a major threat to Camelot.
