Toms Racing Tips
Following on from last year, we are delighted to announce that we are featuring Horse racing tips from Channel Four Racing presenter, Tom Lee.
Generous
One of the most popular Derby winners in recent history was the Paul Cole trained Generous. Racing as a two year old, Generous won three races and finished second in the Coventry Stakes at Ascot. Under Alan Munro as a three year old, Generous enjoyed a magical season.
With Marju and Star of Gdansk trailing in his wake, Generous clinched the 1991 Epsom Derby with remarkable ease. The awesome display was soon repeated, lifting the Irish Derby, King George and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes. Generous lined up as the short priced favourite in the Arc de Triomphe Odds and after a disappointing race it was announced he had broken a blood vessel. It was to be his last race and Generous retired to Stud shortly afterwards.
Generous was hailed as Timeform's 'European Champion of the Decade', collected over one million pounds in prize money and became one of the most popular Derby Winners of all time. However, the injury suffered by Generous cost him the chance to lift the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe; he had already beaten the eventual Arc winner Suave Dancer in the Irish Derby earlier that season.
