Jamie Spencer Epsom Derby Profile

Jamie Spencer is clearly the new kid on the block was born in Ireland in 1980. His recent rise to fame is mainly due to his high profile job at the Aidan O'Brien yard. Jamie's father was a trainer and influenced him to become a jockey. As an apprentice, Jamie's talent began to be realised and he went on to win the 1999 Irish apprentices' championship.

Jamie has been fortunate enough to ride some top quality horses, such as the Aidan O'Brien trained, Hawk Wing, and winner of three Group 1 races. Jamie rode the horse when he was second to Sir Alex Ferguson's record-breaking horse, Rock of Gibraltar, in the 2002 Sagitta 2,000 Guineas.

Jamie has been riding plenty of top-class horses in 2006. Although he has been unlucky in the Classic races at Newmarket and Epsom Racecourse, he has ridden a large number of winners in Britain and Ireland and has achieved victories in several big races. Amongst his winning rides have been Five Dynasties in the King Edward VII Stakes and Moscow Ballet in the Hampton Court Stakes, both at Royal Ascot.

Jamie's style of riding is particularly distinguishing as he gives the impression that his horse is going very well. He is very cool and will need all his coolness with all the big races he will be riding over the coming years.
