Epsom Derby Legends

Epsom Derby LegendsLike all great races the Derby has a number of legends which will always be top of mind when looking back in history. When one uses the word Legends sometimes this can be used to easily but in the people and horses listed in our review they are all the greats of the game and the word legend is well deserved.

Top of the list is of course Lester Piggott who won this great race a record nine times a feat that will be very hard to overhaul. Lester will be obviously be best remembered for his unique riding style and could be picked about amongst the runners with his bum firmly held high in the air. Lester was never one for many words but his riding did all the talking.

Pat Eddery was another who is a legend to all in the game. He was held in such high regard by all his fellow jockeys as he was such a professional. It is just a shame he did not sign off with a win in the 2003 Derby with a win on Great Gatsby.

The biggest tragedy was the death of Shergar having being snatched from his stable in 1983. Unfortunately the world was never going to get the opportunity to see his progeny attempting to go on and emulate their father's great achievement of winning the Derby by the biggest winning margin of ten lengths.

In this section you will be able to take a walk down memory lane with some of these and many more of the greats of this great Epsom Derby race and we hope you enjoy the trip.
