Epsom Derby Favourites Form
In the last couple of years the Epsom Derby favourites have come in with Authorized in 2007, who won in blistering style and before that Motivator won at 3/1 in 2005 and in 2004 the favourite North Light obliged at the odds of 7/2 joint favourite in the Epsom Derby Odds. North Light was well fancied to complete the Stoute/Fallon double in 2003 and 2004.
The success of North Light ended a losing streak of favourites in the Epsom Derby Betting of the past nine running of the race.
2003 On ground which was very soft Hawk Wing did not get through it as well as his stable companion High Chaperral.
2002 The favourite Refuse To Bend at 11-4 was a big disappointment for the Dermot Weld stable.
2001 Galileo and Golan: 11/4 joint-favourites and first and second on the track. However the winner had far too much speed for his rival.
2000 Beat Hollow: Henry Cecil's well backed Derby favourite struggled with the daunting Epsom Racecourse, but still finished a respectable third.
1999 Dubai Millennium: The mile-and-a-half trip proved too much the 1999 Favourite. Although future achievements demonstrated his class, the stamina limitations proved fatal on Derby day.
1998 Cape Verdi: The 1000 Guineas winner was another Derby favourite to pick up a serious injury and trailed in ninth behind High-Rise.
1997 Entrepreneur: Sent off as the 4/6 favourite, the 2000 Guineas winner proved to be a huge dissapointment, trailing in fourth behind Benny The Dip.
1996 Dushyantor: The Henry Cecil trained favourite was sent off as the 9/2 favourite. Depsite a fantastic finish, coming from off the pace, he was unable to claw back the lead established by Shaamit and was beaten into second by under two lengths.
1995 Pennekamp: Andre Fabre's 11/8 favourite failed to do himself justice, finishing eleventh. It was to be the colts last track appearance, an injury sustained during the race ended his career.
