Saeed bin Suroor Epsom Derby Profile

Saeed has reached the top of the horseracing industry, via the global breeding empire of Godolphin. He has trained many of the world's most highly bred, talented flat racehorses, of which he identifies Dubai Millennium as the best, as well as his personal favourite. During his career, Dubai Millennium won nine of just ten races, accumulating several million pounds in prize money. Amongst those wins were the Dubai World Cup and the Prince of Wales Stakes, in 2000. After winning the latter, he was retired to stud unfortunately he had to put down and in 2004 we have begun to see his offspring emerge with the great potential.

In April 1995 bin Suroor joined Sheikh Mohammed's Al Quoz stable in Dubai and the Godolphin operation in England, this partnership has produced the most successful stable in the world today.

The Godolphin operation was created in 1994, under the supervision and funding of the Maktoum family, with the aim of moving away from the traditional approach of preparing horses for a European flat campaign. Each winter a select number of horses are bought to Dubai, acclimatised and prepared for the following years racing. The climate of Dubai allows for uninterrupted training schedules, giving them a better chance of honours when employed in Europe (from their Newmarket base) or globally.

1994 witnessed Saeed bin Suroor finishing second in the British trainers championship, finishing closely behind John Dunlop. Championship and English Classic Races success followed in 1995, clinching the Oaks with Moonshell, St Leger with Classic Cliché and the legendary Lammtarra annihilating the field in the Derby. Lammtarra went onto record a unique Derby, King George and Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe Triple Crown within a magnificent season for Godolphin and bin Suroor. The Godolphin operation has developed rapidly into one of the most powerful stables anywhere in the world. With the resources at the disposal of the Dubai royal family, there is no doubt Godolphin will add to its already impressive record of Group One titles.

The 2004 season was a fantastic one for the Godolphin operation with numerous group 1 winners and the star of the show being Doyen. The association with top Jockey Frankie Dettori has grown year on year and is always a sight to see Frankie doing his flying dismount from a Godolphin winner.
