George Washington is all Speed!
The impressive George Washington's thrilling victory in Saturday's Stan James 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket shows he is all speed and we suggest that he will not turn up at Epsom on Derby day.
Sir Percy though a two-and-a half-length runner-up to Aidan O'Brien's precocious colt was no disgrace and looked like an ideal trial for the Vodafone Derby at Epsom on June 3.
Tregoning's Mark Of Esteem colt is now as low as 4-1 at the head of the betting with totesport for the 1m4f contest with the best price on offer being the 6-1 available with Ladbrokes.
Sir Percy travelled well at Headquarters on Saturday and hit the front in the latter stages, but was beaten by a horse of huge talent. Once the well-backed 6-4 favourite George Washington had gone past him just under two furlongs from home, there was only going to be one winner.
Sir Percy, though, was comfortably ahead of the rest with third-placed front-runner Olympian Odyssey a length and a half back in third.
George Washington has electric speed and this probably make connections stick to the shorter distances and his Irish trainer also doubted the logic of trying to go further.
